How many people does Johnny's sleep?

Up to 28 across 6 bedrooms and 19 beds. Every bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, and there is a half bath off the kitchen — 6.5 in total.

How far is the beach?

A 3-minute walk to Playa Avellanas. Lola's is about seven minutes on foot.

Can we book a single room?

Yes, when the whole property is not already booked and your arrival is within 60 days. Further out than that we hold the property for whole-property bookings.

Is breakfast really included?

Yes, cooked on site by Karla. Lunches and dinners can be added as a meal package.

Is there someone on site?

Alberto and Karla live on the property. He handles maintenance, transport and excursions; she cooks and looks after the rooms.

Do we need to rent a car?

Not if you mostly plan to be at the property and the beach — our two 12-passenger vans cover airport runs and excursions. If you want to explore independently, rent something with four-wheel drive.

Which airport should we fly into?

Liberia (LIR), about an hour and a half away. San José works but adds roughly four hours of driving.

What is the Presidential Package?

The all-inclusive upgrade. It costs the same again as the booking itself and covers airport transfers, use of the vans, lunches and dinners, excursion planning, daily cleaning, laundry, massages, childcare, pickleball at Hacienda Pinilla, and boogie and surf boards. It can be paid about 30 days before arrival.

How much is the meal package on its own?

$30 per person per day for lunch and dinner, for guests five and older. Younger children eat free. Breakfast is already included for everyone. Specialty diets — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian or vegan — carry a $5 per person per meal surcharge, since those ingredients cost more here.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check in after 4:00 PM and check out before 10:00 AM.

Is the price for the whole property, however many of us there are?

The listed price covers 16 guests. Beyond that it is $20 per additional guest per day, for guests five and older.

How much is airport transport?

Liberia to Johnny's and back, each way, per van: $400 for up to 12 people and $550 for 15 to 20. You can also use our vehicles for $150 a day across your whole stay, or $200 a day for individual days.

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds for days used or unused. Please be sure of your dates before you book.

Is it noisy?

Avellanas is a developing area, so there can be construction noise between 9am and 4pm. The bedrooms have modern glass doors and windows that cut most of it. You will also hear roosters early — that is Costa Rica.

Will there be bugs?

You are in the jungle, so occasionally. The caretakers fumigate outside the rooms and change linens as needed — tell them and they deal with it the same day.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, pets are welcome.

How many beds are there?

Nineteen beds across the six bedrooms, sleeping up to 28.

Can you host a wedding?

Yes — ceremony on the beach and reception at the property under the covered pavilion. We have hosted them before.

Is it good for surf camps?

It is what the property is best at. Schools book the whole place for weeks at a time; the break is a three-minute walk and breakfast is served early.

Is there WiFi?

Yes — a 200 Mbps connection throughout the property, plus air conditioning and a ceiling fan in every bedroom.

What does it cost to book direct?

Booking here saves you 10% against the Airbnb price for the same dates.
