Costa Rican meals prepared at Johnny's Beach Bungalow

Food at Johnny's

Karla cooks. This is the part guests write home about.

Breakfast is included

Gallo pinto with eggs, tortillas and fruit, or pancakes and toast if that suits the table better. Coffee is ready early, which matters when there is a dawn session.

Lunch and dinner

Add the meal package at $30 per person per day and you stop thinking about food for the week. Guests four and under eat free. Casados, fresh fish, chicken in salsa, olla de carne, ceviche — along with the things children will actually eat.

For context, breakfast around Tamarindo runs $12–$15 a head and lunch or dinner $15–$30. Groups who take the package usually save 25–35% on food across a stay, and nobody spends an hour deciding where to go.

Dietary needs

Tell us in advance. Vegetarian and vegan are routine and allergies are taken seriously. Specialty ingredients cost more in this part of Costa Rica, so gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan meals carry a $5 per person per meal surcharge. Nut allergies do not — Costa Rican cooking uses few nuts.

Eating out

Lola's is a seven-minute walk. La Esquina is about fifteen. Both are worth a night.
